LIRR MID SUFFOLK YARDS

HVAC WHOLE BUILDING COMMISSIONING

The expansion of Long Island Rail Road’s (LIRR) existing storage yard in Ronkonkoma is a key part of the LIRR’s larger efforts to increase and provide more reliable and efficient commuter rail service into Manhattan. STV designed the original yard and was selected by LIRR to provide preliminary design for track, signal and traction power modifications needed for an 11-track expansion of the facility, so that it connects to the existing LIRR main line and associated wash/lead tracks. Airpath provided the support facility whole building HVAC systems commissioning.

The LIRR and its parent agency, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, are upgrading many of their key storage and maintenance facilities in concert with East Side Access, a $10 billion project to extend LIRR service to Grand Central Terminal on the East Side of Manhattan. Airpath has been contracted to provide testing throughout this expansion at Grand Central Terminal LIRR platforms, East Side Access Facility Package (25 Locations) and ESA 270 Park.
